Inter-operation degreasing of aluminum drums

Project specifics

We designed a cleaning machine for the inter-operation degreasing of aluminum barrels for a company specializing in the bar turning of mechanical parts.

The goal was to process barrels of various sizes—ranging from Ø12 to Ø44 mm in diameter and 42 to 110 mm in length—at a rate of 500 parts per hour.

Performance and Production Rate

The machine operates in three stages: spray washing, rinsing, and drying.

The parts are packaged in a stainless steel wire basket and can be loaded in bulk, sorted into compartments, or placed in bins depending on their shape.

The drum operates by rotating 360° or oscillating at a configurable angle. The cycle time is approximately 20 minutes.

Oil Processing and Filtration

The process is designed to treat water-insoluble machining oils as well as chips from bar turning.

The washing and rinsing stages incorporate multi-stage filtration at 2,000 µm, 800 µm, and 50 µm, which captures chips and contaminants present in the baths.

A coalescing oil separator with a floating overflow also removes oils from the surface.

Drying Before Welding

After rinsing, compressed air is used to remove any remaining water before drying with hot air blades and vapor extraction.

This process ensures that the drums are degreased, clean, and dry before the welding operation.
